Bill Shull Lectureship Fund

In Fond Memory of...........

William H. Shull, Jr., M.D.
December 19, 1960-July 11, 2003

William H. Shull Lectureship Fund at the University of Pennsylvania

This fund was recently established by our Department, at the request of the Shull family, to help memorialize the many contributions made by Bill Shull during his tenure here as a resident, fellow and faculty member.

Bill Shull was a special person in many, many ways. His colleagues and students here at Penn will long remember his engaging smile, his commitment to hard work, and his devotion to his patients. We knew Bill primarily as a dedicated, compassionate physician who worked tirelessly on behalf of seriously ill patients who needed him. Even more inspiring, however, was the way that Bill approached his own life and the enthusiasm he brought to every task. Even during those times when his illness took much of his energy, it didn’t seem to slow Bill down much; whenever he was needed, he was there. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

The establishment of this annual lectureship in neurorehabilitation will help us continue to honor his example and his memory. We have established an endowment-type account that will enable our Department to invite prominent speakers here to Penn to participate in this annual event. On each such occasion, we will honor Bill’s memory by calling attention to his life and work.

To train the next generation of physicians in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a mission that Bill Shull enthusiastically supported for his entire professional life. I am certain Bill would be proud to have his name attached to this annual lectureship event associated with him and his family.
